Bah

Lyla's trying to say "Happy Fourth of July" here, but all that came out was "Bah!"

Last year on the Fourth, I posted this picture on my other blog:


Julie was in her second trimester at the time, and the caption of the post was "Still Independent." My thinking was that it was something to celebrate, this independence from the responsibilities of parenting. It's still just us, I told myself, and felt thankful that we could be on a trip together without having to worry about a baby with its diapers, crying, feeding, and on and on.

Fast forward a year:


Ask me if I'd go back to the way it was before, and like Lyla, I'd say "Bah!"
